Image of God

about

a song about how we pick our friends from a Christian perspective. mellotron, guitar, rompler, etc etc.

lyrics

when we meet new people
what about them do we choose to see?
what are the first things we notice?
and how do we choose whose friend we'll be?

----

are they beautiful?
are they strong?
are they intelligent?
can they sing pretty songs?

are they successful?
hard working?
wealthy?
are they extraordinarily
- fit and healthy?

------
do they speak with charisma?
are they naturally funny?
is their smile all dazzling
and impossibly sunny?
------

But what if
they look weird?
What if they smell?
What if they spit when they talk
or don't speak all that well?

and what if they're annoying?
maybe they're bland?
have they heard of your favorite
book, film, or band?

or maybe they're a criminal?
locked up in prison
for something so bad
they're feared by everyone?

----

we called him a criminal
said he broke the law
while we were still sinning
laid his life down for us all

Jesus wasn't so pretty
he probably smelled
we weren't his friends
when he dove straight into hell

---

bearers of the image of our God
how do we choose whose friend we'll be?
